Retiring from his rugby career in 2024, Ben Toolis is a co-founder of Fifty Twenty-Two. He played at professional level for over 10 years competing in the 2019 Rugby World Cup and representing Scotland, Edinburgh Ruby and the Hanazono Kintetsu Liners in Japan during his career. “As a professional athlete, you get used to discipline, structure and intensity. Everything revolves around performance, your time, mindset, even your financial decisions. But if there’s one thing I learned during my rugby career, it’s that those peak performance years are limited. What happens next is something too many players aren’t prepared for.
“There’s always a moment of reflection, and that moment came for me during the pandemic. When everything just paused, the training, matches, daily routines, I had time to take stock. Contracts can change overnight, injuries can end a career early, and even a strong salary can be short-lived. I realised I didn’t want to wait until retirement to plan for my future. I wanted to invest what I’d earned through my rugby career while I still had the momentum.
“I was first introduced to Pav Masutes through a mutual connection. And we clicked instantly. What began as a conversation about personal investments quickly grew into something much more strategic. Pav’s approach was different. He didn’t just offer advice, he took the time to educate on investment and financial planning, to explain the logic behind every decision, and to guide me through the full picture of how property investment could work.

“From that initial idea, Fifty Twenty-Two (FTT) as a concept became a reality. It’s a way for players to stay focused on the game while quietly building a solid future in the background.
